Abstract: In number theory, one often comes across arithmetic functions such as the divisor function, the sum of divisors function and the Euler-phi function. One can ask how large these functions are on average. In this talk, we will demonstrate how complex analysis can be utilized to perform such estimates, and how this, in turn, can be used in the problem of counting square discriminants.
